Project Description:

Our overarching goal is to advance usable social-scientific knowledge regarding the determinants and consequences of social cohesion. We will study social cohesion in the Indo-Pacific region, focusing on five countries that are of significant geostrategic importance to the United States and the People’s Republic of China: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam. The Indo-Pacific is a crucial region for studying social cohesion due to its geopolitical centrality, economic dynamism, vulnerability to natural disasters, and diverse populations experiencing ever-increasing migration flows. The data and conceptual insights collected through this study can be used by the Department of Defense to better understand crisis resilience across the Indo-Pacific region.
